Recognizing Stress

Bryan Bajakian

What is STRESSING you out?

One of the first presentations that Dr. Bryan Bajakian created and brought to the public was one on STRESS.  What he found amazing was not just how common it was in our lives, but more importantly how dangerous it was to our health.

75-90% of ALL visits to primary care physicians are the result of STRESS related conditions within the patient’s body.

Recognizing Stress

Which of these is stress?

  • You receive a promotion at work.
  • Your car has a flat tire.
  • You go to a fun party that lasts till 2:00 am.
  • Your dog gets sick.
  • Your new bedroom set is being delivered.
  • Your best friend and his wife come to stay at your house for a week.
  • You get a bad case of hay fever.
  • All of the above.

ALL OF THESE ARE STRESS

If you are used to thinking that stress is something that makes you worry, you have the wrong idea of stress. Stress is many different things: happy things, sad things, allergic things, physical things. Many people carry enormous stress loads and they do not even realize it.

WHAT IS STRESS?

We are all familiar with the word “stress”. Stress is when you are worried about getting laid off from your job, or worried about having enough money to pay your bills, or worried about your mother when the doctor says she may need an operation. In fact, to most of us, stress is synonymous with worry. If it is something that makes you worry, then it is stress.

Your body, however, has a much broader definition of stress. TO YOUR BODY, STRESS IS SYNONYMOUS WITH CHANGE. Anything that causes a change in your life causes stress. It doesn’t’t matter if it is a “good” change, or a “bad” change, they are both a form of stress. When you find your dream apartment and get ready to move, that is stress. If you break your leg, that is stress. Good or bad, if it is a CHANGE in your life, it is stress as far as your body is concerned.

Even IMAGINED CHANGE is stress (imagining changes is what we call “worrying”.) If you fear that you will not have enough money to pay your rent, that is stress. If you worry that you may get fired, that is stress. If you think that you may receive a promotion at work, that is also stress (even though this would be a good change). Whether the event is good or bad, imagining changes in your life is stressful.

  • Anything that causes CHANGE IN YOUR DAILY ROUTINE is stressful.

  • Anything that causes CHANGE IN YOUR BODY HEALTH is stressful.

  • IMAGINED CHANGES are just as stressful as real changes.

Let us look at several types of stress – ones that are so commonplace that you might not even realize that they are stressful…

Emotional Stress

Bryan Bajakian, D.C.

Are you feeling STRESSED Out??

When arguments, disagreements, and conflicts cause CHANGES in your personal life –that is stress.

Illness

Catching a cold, breaking an arm, a skin infection, a sore back, are all CHANGES in your body condition.

Pushing Your Body Too Hard

Bryan Bajakian

Don't get lost in your work!!

A major source of stress is overdriving yourself. If you are working (or partying) 16 hours a day, you will have reduced your available time for rest. Sooner or later, the energy drain on your system will cause the body to fall behind in its repair work. There will not be enough time or energy for the body to fix broken cells, or replace used up brain neurotransmitters. CHANGES will occur in your body’s internal environment. You will “hit the wall”, or “run out of gas”. If you continue, permanent damage may be done. The body’s fight to stay healthy in the face of the increased energy that you are expending is major stress.

Environmental Factors

Very hot or very cold climates can be stressful. Very high altitude may be a stress. Toxins or poisons are a stress. Each of these factors threatens to cause CHANGES in your body’s internal environment.

The Special Case of Tobacco Use

Tobacco is a powerful toxin!! Smoking destroys cells that clean your trachea, bronchi, and lungs. Smoking causes emphysema and chronic bronchitis, which progress to slow suffocation. The carbon monoxide from cigarette smoking causes chronic carbon monoxide poisoning. Tobacco use damages the arteries in your body, causing insufficient blood supply to the brain, heart, and vital organs. Cigarette smoking increases the risk of cancer 50 fold.

Chewing tobacco or snuff is no safe haven. It also damages your arteries, and it carries the same cancer risk. (Cancers of the head and neck are particularly vicious, disfiguring, and deadly).

Poisoning the body with carbon monoxide, and causing the physical illnesses of emphysema, chronic bronchitis, cancer, and arterial damage, tobacco is a powerful source of added stress to one’s life.

Hormonal Factors

PUBERTY

The vast hormonal changes of puberty are severe stressors. A person’s body actually CHANGES shape, sexual organs being to function, new hormones are released in large quantities. Puberty, as we all know is very stressful.

PRE-MENSTRUAL SYNDROME

Once a woman passes puberty, her body is designed to function best in the presence of female hormones. For women past puberty, a lack of female hormones is a major stress on the body. Once a month, just prior to menstruation, a woman’s hormone levels drop sharply. In many women, the stress of sharply falling hormones is enough to create a temporary OVERSTRESS. This temporary OVERSTRESS is popularly know as Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS).

POST-PARTUM

Following a pregnancy, hormone levels CHANGE dramatically. After a normal childbirth or a miscarriage, some women may be thrown into OVERSTRESS by loss of the hormones of pregnancy.

MENOPAUSE

There is another time in a woman’s life when hormone levels decline. This is menopause. The decline of hormones during menopause is slow and steady. Nevertheless, this menopausal decline causes enough stress on the body to produce OVERSTRESS in many women.

Taking Responsibility for Another Persons Actions

Bryan Bajakian

Covering for another can cause a LOT of STRESS

When you take responsibility for another person’s actions, CHANGES occur in your life over which you have little or no control. Taking responsibility for another person’s actions is a major stressing factor.

Allergic Stress

Allergic reactions are a part of your body’s natural defense mechanism. When confronted with a substance, which your body considers toxic, your body will try to get rid of it, attack it, or somehow neutralize it. If it is something that lands in your nose, you might get a runny, sneezy nose. If it lands on your skin, you might get blistered skin. If you inhale it, you’lll get wheezy lungs. If you eat it, you may break out in itchy red hives all over your body. Allergy is a definite stress, requiring large changes in energy expenditure on the part of your body’s defense system to fight off what the body perceives as a dangerous attack by an outside toxin.

Info You Should Know about Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural method of health care with the proven ability to relieve back pain, increase vitality, and promote well-being. For over a century, doctors of chiropractic have successfully helped millions of individuals recover from spine-related health problems. As a result, chiropractic has earned its place as the largest drugless and non-surgical health care profession in the United States.

How does chiropractic work?

The human body possesses a natural ability to restore itself. This ability depends on a healthy nervous system. Life’s events such as automobile accidents, sports injuries, repetitive work, and home stress are just some of the factors that can overwhelm the body’s ability to adapt. The joints of the spine ‘lock up’ when these sorts of events occur, limiting range of motion. Spinal joint restriction and/or misalignment results in irritation and/or pressure at the spinal nerve.

Chiropractic care can correct these structural distortions, known as Subluxations, restoring the body to its optimal form and function. Local symptoms of Subluxations may include pain, tenderness, swelling, tingling, numbness, or spasm around the joints of the spine, back, and neck. Many times these sensations extend further into the shoulders and arms, around the rib cage, or into the hips and down the legs. Subluxations can even lead to headaches, stomach and digestive problems, and loss of overall health.

Impaired nerve coordination causes the whole body to suffer. Vital instructions flow between the brain and the body by way of spinal nerves. These instructions inform and direct the body as to when, where, and how it needs to heal itself. By irritating nerves, Subluxations interfere with the essential brain/body exchange, thereby compromising the normal function of the body’s organs and tissues. Chiropractic care clears the path for the body to maintain its own health.

How can a chiropractor help?

Doctors of chiropractic are specially trained in the evaluation and treatment of spinal conditions, which is why an increasing number of back pain sufferers are turning to them for fast, effective, and reliable care. Similarly, more and more hospitals and private practices are now working closely with doctors of chiropractic in order to ensure the best quality of care for patients who suffer from spine-related injuries and dysfunction.

The benefits of chiropractic care have also been shown to extend beyond reduction of back and neck pain. In fact, chiropractic has proven itself as useful in the reduction of headache pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, jaw pain, sciatica, and tingling in the arms and legs. The rewards of chiropractic care are numerous. People under chiropractic care report better health and well-being and many families have realized the benefits of chiropractic care for their children.

Who should see a doctor of chiropractic?

Nerve interference can affect anyone, which is why people of all ages experience relief and improved health through chiropractic care. A qualified doctor of chiropractic will best determine the appropriateness of care for you or your family.

No method of health care has proven itself to be more effective than chiropractic in helping those who suffer from back and neck pain. Doctors of chiropractic are the most highly qualified professionals in evaluating and caring for these, as well as many other health problems.

Is Chiropractic safe?

YES. Its non-surgical, drug-free approach to health places chiropractic among the safest of all health care practices. Remember, chiropractic takes nothing out of the body and puts nothing in. As a result, chiropractors enjoy one of the lowest malpractice rates of all health care professionals.

How are Doctors of Chiropractic educated?

Like all primary health care providers, doctors of chiropractic undergo extensive education and training before becoming licensed professionals. Students begin by fulfilling undergraduate degree requirements, with a strong emphasis on the core sciences such as chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and physics.

The professional program leading to the Doctor of Chiropractic degree is very demanding. Chiropractic students continue their study of the sciences, including pathology and biochemistry, at a highly detailed level.

Their education continues into the advanced clinical sciences including orthopedics, neurology, examination procedures, differential diagnosis, and X-ray interpretation. During this entire process, aspiring doctors of chiropractic gain knowledge of the philosophy and practice of health care and chiropractic.

Doctors of chiropractic refine their technical adjusting skills in technique classes. During clinical internships student doctors perfect these skills.

Finally, all doctors of chiropractic must pass the rigorous national board exams and state exams before entering the field.

What can I expect on my first visit?

Your initial visit will begin with a consultation. Your doctor will take a case history and ask about your present condition.

Next, the doctor will perform an examination to evaluate the nature of your problem. This examination generally includes a series of basic physical tests, as well as a specialized chiropractic evaluation of spinal movement and posture.

If necessary, your doctor may recommend X-rays or diagnostic tests to obtain further information about the mechanics of your spine and the details of your condition.

After completing the analysis, your doctor will explain your problem and map out an appropriate plan of action with you. If necessary, you may be referred to another health care specialist for further evaluation or treatment. Doctors of chiropractic work with a variety of health care professionals in the best interest of their patients.

Your doctor will discuss your care plan with you, taking into consideration your health habits, stress, and activity levels.

Over the course of your care, your doctor will monitor your individual response and may also recommend changes to your lifestyle, work environment, dietary, and exercise patterns.

How does chiropractic correct my spinal problems?

Following consultation and examination, a program of care will be designed and customized to your specific needs.  This program is centered around the chiropractic adjustment, a method of treatment unique to chiropractic, which corrects spinal Subluxations and dysfunction. The primary goal of an adjustment is to improve spinal alignment and motion, thereby relieving nerve irritation, pressure, and pain.

You may feel immediate improvement after an adjustment, although most people experience gradual, progressive relief of symptoms. Since adjustments restore motion to previously locked joints, ligaments and tendons begin to stretch back to their normal length. This lengthening may cause slight muscle soreness similar to that brought on by rigorous exercise.  If you experience these sensations, be assured that within days you’ll likely be enjoying the benefits of improved spinal motion with less pain that results from a healthier spine. For the best results, follow  the plan that your doctor of chiropractic recommends for you.

How much chiropractic care will I need?

The number of visits you make to your chiropractor depends on the nature of your condition and your personal goals. Many people use chiropractic as part of a preventive health care routine, scheduling chiropractic appointments on a regular basis to keep their bodies functioning at their best. Others seek care and treatment for specific conditions with the primary goal of treatment being pain relief. It is important for you to discuss your objectives with your chiropractor in order to develop a treatment plan that works best for you.

Keep in mind, healing rates vary from person to person. Children tend to respond more quickly to treatment, whereas adults and seniors may respond more slowly. A good rule of thumb is that the longer the spine has not been working properly, the more extensive the care plan may be to achieve desired results.

Is chiropractic care expensive? Will my insurance cover it?

Chiropractic has demonstrated itself to be one of the most cost-effective forms of care in all of the health care market. As with any product or service, fees vary by provider and location.

Many health care plans provide coverage for chiropractic care. Check with your benefits manager to find out what coverage you may have with your health plan. Also, talk with your prospective doctor of chiropractic to learn about your payment options. Many patients pay directly for care, as they discover chiropractic to be extremely cost-effective and affordable.

How can I find the right Doctor of Chiropractic for me?

When selecting a health care provider, whether a primary care physician, a dentist, or a doctor of Chiropractic, take the time to consult with a few different possibilities before settling on the one of your choice.  Ask around, you’d be surprised at how many of your friends and family go to Chiropractors whom they trust and hold in high regard.

Evaluate your needs and health care goals. Talk with your friends and family; find out whom they recommend. Then speak to your prospective doctor of chiropractic. A healthy relationship can develop if you two have the same goals in mind.

Whiplash

The Mechanism of Whiplash

Bryan Bajakian, D.C.  is a Chiropractor in northern New Jersey and has examined and treated many patients who have been injured in automobile related accidents.

Whiplash usually occurs when there is an unusual, unexpected and sudden impact to the body that causes the neck to be thrown in one direction then another very quickly.   Bryan Bajakian, D.C., wants to point out that of the millions of chiropractic patients each year, many have suffered from a whiplash injury, as whiplash is one of the most common outcomes of an automobile accident with 15-30% of victims suffering from neck pain after an automobile accident.

When the spine is thrown from one direction to another it is usually the rebounding that causes the most damage.  The head is also usually turned to the right or left to a small degree during the accident, which makes the injury more prevalent.  It can cause soft tissue damage, muscle damage, tendon damage and damage to other ligaments.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has found that this damage can range from severe to mild, and be slow or fast healing. It is also capable of causing long term damage that results in chronic pain.   Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has documented numerous studies show that 50-88% of whiplash sufferers continue to experience pain and some disability for years after the accident.

Spinal Cord Damage

The severity of the accident will determine the range of damage, says Bryan Bajakian, D.C..  Whiplash can cause symptoms from stiffness to severe pain, and in some cases paralysis or death. The symptoms usually start with soreness and stiffness in the neck, possibly accompanied by a headache, and begin immediately after the accident. Numbness, tingling, pins and needles between the shoulder blades, arm and hand, ear ringing, dizziness, hearing loss, blurred vision, eye pain, sensitivity to light, and other visual impairments are some of the symptoms that accompany whiplash.

Symptoms of Whiplash

In addition, Bryan Bajakian, D.C., says a concussion caused by the rough jarring of the head that throws the brain against the skull, may accompany whiplash.  Concussion symptoms are headaches, restlessness, irritability, insomnia, moodiness, depression, and emotional jitters.  These symptoms are known as Post Concussion Syndrome.

The Medical Approach

Bryan Bajakian, D.C. emphasizes, a person involved in an accident should first be sure that there is no life threatening injuries. This is performed by emergency medicine specialists, and is prevalent in keeping the patient out of danger.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. states, once the serious life threatening injuries have been ruled out the victim needs to be examined by a doctor of chiropractic.

The Chiropractic Approach

Safe & Effective Chiropractic Care

As a Chiropractor, Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has given care that has helped alleviate pain and correct the spinal damage that was caused by the whiplash for so many patients.  Many whiplash sufferers are forced to live out their life in pain and taking painkillers to be able to cope with that pain, but those that seek chiropractic treatment can return to normal health through spinal adjustments.

Bryan Bajakian, D.C. says even whiplash sufferers that have let years pass may be helped by chiropractic.  If the spine is not structurally sound, as in the case of whiplash that is untreated, it may lead to other illness and injury over time.

If you have been involved in an accident, no matter how long ago, and are in pain, Bryan Bajakian urges you to see your local chiropractor for an examination and treatment.

ADHD and Drugs

ADD/ADHD and Drugs

As a father himself, Bryan Bajakian, D.C., would like to remind us all that the greatest resource that we as a species have is our children.  NOTHING should take priority in our lives over their safety and their well-being.

Many of us live hectic lifestyles

Unfortunately, due to “the American Way of Life” many people lead very hectic lives and often the less obvious dangers that threaten our children’s health are overlooked.

Bryan Bajakian, D.C. is referring to many of the processed foods and the high sugar content in much of what is deemed as “kids” foods.

Poor Food Choices

We all have heard of the saying…. “you are what you eat”.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. wants to remind you that IF you feed a child a diet of processed foods, elevated levels of sugar, improper food combining, and transfatty acids (as found in French fries)-you are going to end up with a child who presents themselves as being “hyper-active”, states Bryan Bajakian D.C..

Medicating Our Children

As a Chiropractor, Bryan Bajakian D.C., would like to point out the logical manner to approach this to modify the diet, check the child’s nervous system, and to watch normal health and behavior return.  Unfortunately, this is the day of the “behavior pills”.  Today’s society has been brainwashed or conditioned so completely through advertising so often, and so extensively by the drug industry, that the concept of drugging our children has become accepted and in many cases routine.  This is a very sad reality, and one we need to change says Bryan Bajakian, D.C..

A statistic that Bryan Bajakian, D.C. is saddened to report is that the United States consumes 95% of the Ritalin in the world.  We have been warned repeatedly by the United Nations on this specific matter.  As Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has often said, “Are we to assume all the hyperactive children in the world reside in our country, or is it possible that the American public is responding to the BILLIONS of dollars that has been spent by the drug industry to make this concept of giving our kids drugs that are identical in composition to COCAINE, and that this concept is not only accepted by the children’s pediatricians, but often this practice is promoted by them”.

Drugs CAN Kill

The sad part is that none of these parents are told that PERMANENT CHEMICAL CHANGES of their children’s brains will occur as a result of such medications.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. points out that few parents are aware that such drugs for “hyper-activity” can actually KILL their child.

This report presented to you by Bryan Bajakian, D.C. is an alarming testament of just how much these practices are increasing.

Over prescribing of Drugs

Use Of drugs to treat kids with ADHD and depression growing steadily cites Bryan Bajakian, D.C..   Despite publicity about their dangers and overuse, medical doctors have steadily increased their prescriptions of stimulants and antidepressant medications to treat ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) and depression in children – some as much as 195%!

The most commonly prescribed psychotropic classes of drugs – central nervous system stimulants (CNSSs) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) –-increased by 26% and 62% respectively. The shocking information presented to you by Bryan Bajakian, D.C.  is contained in a report based on a study funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) that covered the years 1995 to 1999, published in a recent issue of Ambulatory Pediatrics.

Bryan Bajakian, D.C. reports that researchers at the Center for Health Care Policy and Evaluation, United Health Group, with support from AHRQ’s Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics at the University of North Carolina, studied how four therapeutic drug classes used to treat ADHD and depression in youth – CNSSs, SSRIs, tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), and other antidepressants – vary in use over time by age, gender, geographic region, and prescribing physician.

They used pharmacy and enrollment data from six geographically diverse model employer-insured health plans says Bryan Bajakian, D.C..  Researchers examined trends in physician prescribing practices of psychotropics for youth, but did not focus on the appropriateness of prescribing patterns or quality-of-care models.

Bryan Bajakian, D.C. wants you to know that the study also found:
***For CNSS patient use, the proportion of Ritalin users decreased, while the proportion of Adderall users increased.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. would like to point out that Adderall is so dangerous that a recall was issued on it.

***Among all children under 20 years, those receiving both CNSSs and SSRIs almost doubled from 1.4 to 2.6 per 1,000 over five years.

***The use of antidepressants other than SSRIs or TCAs by physicians for their patients increased by 195% overall.

***A child’s first prescription for each CNSS prescribed came from a pediatrician 50% of the time and by a family practitioner 20% of the time. The first prescription for each SSRI prescribed was most likely given by a psychiatrist, although the proportion decreased from 56 to 44% during the study.

Children ARE our future

As Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has said countless times, children ARE our future…if we don’t stand up for what is right for THEM and not go along with what is now more accepted socially, our future will NOT shine as bright as it should.

Scientific Medical Journal Reports on Nerve Pressure

Are you TRULY healthy??

Ever since Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has been in practice, people would make comments such as, “I feel fine, I don’t need to go to a Chiropractor”, or “The pain comes and goes but most of the time I feel pretty good so I don’t think I need to go.”

As a Chiropractor in Northern New Jersey, Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has always had to contend with the belief system that the American population has been consistantly coerced into believing, that absence of pain means nothing is wrong.

Spine Magazine

Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has always been open to new research and found a very interesting study in Spine Magazine, a well-respected medical journal, published a study from Texas Woman s University in their January 15, 1999, issue.

All it takes is the weight of a coin on a spinal nerve to cause dysfunction

The report appears to verify what Bryan Bajakian D.C. and so many other Chiropractors before him have been saying for over 100 years. Although the study was complex, researchers tested something known as the “H-Reflex” to measure the effect of pressure on spinal nerves. What they found was that pressure on spinal nerves, (Bryan Bajakian, D.C. and Chiropractors have referred to this as SUBLUXATION), causes measurable changes in the H-reflex. This shows a change in nerve function due to pressure on nerves.

Although this study is good, it only serves to verify prior chiropractic research on Subluxation. In two separate studies, it was shown that as little as 10 to 45 millimeters of mercury pressure, (the weight of a coin on your hand), placed on the nerve root was enough to change the nerve impulses by 40 to 60 percent in minutes.

Even "minor" falls can cause serious spinal problems

Factor in that 80% of all newborn babies are born with Subluxations in their neck due to the birthing process and due to the position they were carried in their mother’s womb, and the countless falls, traumas, and physical stresses that assault the human spine as we grow from infants to adults, Bryan Bajakian, D.C. challenges every person with a logical mind, “HOW CAN YOU EXPECT TO NOT HAVE SPINAL NERVE PRESSURE AT SOME LEVELS OF YOUR SPINE, CAUSING DYSFUNCTION OF YOUR BODY’S SYSTEMS??

This kind of research is good, but it only serves to verify what chiropractic patients have known for over 100 years. Chiropractic Works!

Bryan Bajakian D.C. wishes that you live a truly healthy and productive life.  Suggesting that you go for a Chiropractic evaluation on a regular basis is not asking too much.

Chiropractic Evaluations Reveal Underlying Spinal Problems

Think about it… Most people go for dental check ups….OBGYN check ups…yearly heart exams and/or physicals.  With that being said, Bryan Bajakian, D.C. asks….HOW could you overlook the most important system of your body, the system that controls every cell, organ, muscle, and function within your body-Your Nervous System!

Nutrition Facts About 25 Well-Known Foods

Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has always valued sound nutrition and wanted to advised you that some foods naturally contain disease-fighting, health promoting properties, while others contain elements that may hinder your health goals. Find out information that may surprise you with these helpful food facts.

Asparagus

Asparagus

Asparagus is high in glutathione, an important anticarcinogen
It also contains rutin, which protects small blood vessels from rupturing and may protect against radiation.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. adds, Asparagus is a good source of vitamins A, C and E, B-complex vitamins, potassium and zinc

Avocado

Avocado

Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fat, which Bryan Bajakian, D.C., states  is easily burned for energy.  An avocado has more than twice as much potassium as a banana.  For a delicious, creamy salad dressing, mix together avocado and fresh carrot juice.

Bananas

Bananas

You don’t need to eat bananas for the potassium! (Although it is present in bananas, potassium is the predominant nutrient among most all fruits and vegetables.)   Bryan Bajakian, D.C. is a lover of Bananas but wants to caution you that they are high in sugar, so they should not be eaten if you have blood sugar problems.  Don’t eat bananas on an empty stomach; combining them with a bit of protein will help to normalize the insulin response caused by the sugar in the banana.  Green-tipped bananas are better for your health than over-ripe bananas.

Beet Greens/Root

Beet Greens/Root

Beet greens contain notable amounts of calcium, iron, magnesium and phosphorus.  They also contain vitamins A, B-complex and C.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. cautions that beet roots are high in carbohydrate levels and should therefore be used sparingly.

Broccoli

Broccoli

Broccoli contains twice the vitamin C of an orange and is often spoken very highly of by Bryan Bajakian, D.C. since it has almost as much calcium as whole milk–and the calcium is better absorbed. It contains selenium, a mineral that has been found to have anti-cancer and anti-viral properties.  Broccoli is a modest source of vitamin A and alpha-tocopherol vitamin E and it also has antioxidant properties.

Celery

Celery

Bryan Bajakian, D.C., would like you to know that celery is the best vegetable source of naturally occurring sodium and it is high in potassium.  The high water content in celery makes it ideal for vegetable juicing.  As an easy way to reduce grains in your diet, spread peanut butter on celery rather than bread.

Cilantro

Cilantro

Cilantro may be useful to treat urinary tract infections.  Both the leaves and seeds aid digestion, relieve intestinal gas, pain and distention. Bryan Bajakian, D.C.  also wants you to know that Cilantro is used to treat nausea, soothe inflammation, rheumatic pain, headaches, coughs and mental stress.  Cilantro is a member of the carrot family

Chicory

Chicory

Chicory contains insulin, which helps diabetics regulate their blood sugar levels.  Chicory is closely related to lettuce and dandelion but is a member of the sunflower family.  Bryan Bajakian D.C. adds that many sources state that Chicory may be cleansing to the liver and gallbladder.  Chicory is beneficial for digestion, the circulatory system and the blood.  Chicory leaves are a good source of calcium, vitamin A and potassium

Chinese Cabbage

Chinese Cabbage

Chinese cabbage has anti-inflammatory properties and it is an excellent source of folic acid.  Chinese cabbage is low in calories and low in sodium. It is also high in vitamin A and a good source of potassium

Dandelion Greens

Dandelion Greens

Bryan Bajakian, D.C. says you might not want this plant in your lawn but you definately want it in your diet.  Dandelion is beneficial to digestion and is an antiviral that may be useful in the treatment of AIDS and herpes. It may also be useful in treating jaundice, cirrhosis, edema due to high blood pressure, gout, eczema and acne.  Dandelion is also used to treat and prevent breast and lung tumors and premenstrual bloating.  Dandelion greens are high in vitamin A in the form of antioxidant carotenoid and vitamin C.  They also contain calcium and potassium. One last benefit to this incredible plant that Bryan Bajakian, D.C. wants you to be aware of is that Dandelion root contains inulin, which lowers blood sugar in diabetics

Fennel

Fennel

Fennel contains the antioxidant flavonoid quercetin. Bryan Bajakian, D.C. says this herb is anticarcinogenic and can be useful for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation.  Fennel can be useful for indigestion and spasms of the digestive tract.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. adds, it also helps expel phlegm from the lungs.

Green Beans

Green Beans

Fresh beans contain vitamin A, B-complex vitamins, calcium and potassium
Green beans are diuretic and Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has found in his research that it may be used to treat diabetes.  A fresh bean should snap crisply and feels velvety to the touch.

Jicama

Jicama

Jicama is low in sodium and high in potassium.  It has a slightly sweet flesh that’s on the order of water chestnuts, but crunchier. Due to their high carbohydrate content,  Bryan Bajakian D.C. points out to those who are diabetic, Jicama should be used sparingly.

Kale

Kale

Kale eases lung congestion and is beneficial to the stomach, liver and immune system. It contains lutein and zeaxanthin, which protect the eyes from macular degeneration. It also contains indole-3-carbinol, which may protect against colon cancer. Kale is an excellent source of calcium, iron, vitamins A and C, and chlorophyll.  Bryan Bajakian D.C. adds, if you like to juice your veggies, Kale should be considered so as to add to the overall health value of your juice.

Kohlrabi

Kohlrabi

Kohlrabi, which belongs to the cabbage family, is an excellent source of vitamin C and potassium. It is also high in fiber and Bryan Bajakian, D.C. points out, Kohlrabi helps to stabilize blood sugar and is therefore useful in managing hypoglycemia and diabetes. It can also be effective against edema, candida and viral conditions.

Mustard Greens

Mustard Greens

Mustard greens are an excellent anticancer vegetable
and Bryan Bajakian, D.C, points out they may also be beneficial for colds, arthritis or depression.  While mustard greens sold in the United States are relatively mild in flavor, some mustard green varieties, especially those in Asia, can be as hot as a jalapeno pepper depending on their mustard oil content.

Onions

Onions

Onions are an excellent antioxidant, and they contain anti-allergy, antiviral and antihistamine properties.  Sulfur compounds in onions help to detoxify the body. Onions aid in cellular repair.  Onions are a rich source of quercetin, a potent antioxidant.  Bryan Bajakian D.C. adds, to obtain the maximum nutritional benefits, onions should be eaten raw, juiced, or lightly steamed.

Parsley

Parsley

Parsley is so much more than a garnish to your dinner and Bryan Bajakian, D.C. would like you to know it is useful as a digestive aid, tt helps to purify the blood and stimulate the bowels, it  is an anticarcinogen, and it contains three times as much vitamin C as oranges, and twice as much iron as spinach.
Parsley contains vitamin A and is a good source of copper and manganese.  For a natural breath freshener, Bryan Bajakian, D.C, says…try a sprig of parsley!

Peanut Butter

Peanut Butter

When buying peanut butter, Bryan Bajakian, D.C. advises to only buy organic varieties. Non-organic peanut butters are high in pesticides and fungus and contain aflatoxin, a potent carcinogenic mold. To increase the protein in peanut butter (peanuts have about the same amount of protein as soy), Brewer’s yeast can be mixed in. This is especially useful for vegetarians.

Peanuts

Peanuts

Peanuts contain beneficial protein, but many people are allergic to them and find them hard to digest. Bryan Bajakian D.C. also cautions that they contain aflatoxin, a carcinogenic, which may explain why peanut farmers have been found to have disproportionately high rates of cancer. Peanuts are high in fungus and, often, pesticides. Bryan Bajakian, D.C. states peanuts do not contain any omega-3, which can contribute to distorting your omega-6:omega-3 ratio.  The peanut is actually a legume, not a nut (which is why they are often roasted). Peanuts contain about the same amount of protein as soy and are low in starchy carbohydrates.  Did you know? George Washington Carver was largely responsible for popularizing the peanut as a food in America.

Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc, which is good for the prostate and building the immune system.  They also contain fatty acids that kill parasites.
Raw pumpkin seeds contain essential fatty acids and beneficial proteins.
For maximum nutritional benefits, Bryan Bajakian, D.C. advises that they seeds should be eaten raw. Roasted seeds contain damaged fat that can lead to plaque in the arteries.

Radishes

Radishes

Radishes have antibacterial and anti-fungal properties.  They are a member of the cabbage family and contain vitamin C, potassium and other trace minerals.
Bryan Bajakian, D.C. states that they have been grown in Egypt since at least 2780 B.C., and were originally black in color.

Sweet Potatoe

Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of carotenoid antioxidants.  They contain calcium, are high in vitamins A and C and contain thiamine
Bryan Bajakian, D.C. cautions: eating too many may cause abdominal swelling and indigestion.  Sweet potatoes are also high in sugar and therefore should be used sparingly.  Sweet potatoes are not related to the potato nor the yam–they are actually a member of the morning glory family.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, flavonoids and other phytochemicals with anticarcinogenic properties.  Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamin C (the vitamin C is most concentrated in the jelly-like substance that surrounds the seeds).  They also contain vitamin A and B-complex vitamins, potassium and phosphorus.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. adds this interesting note:  A tomato grown in a hothouse has half the vitamin C content as a vine-ripened tomatoes.

Zucchini

Zucchini (Summer Squash)

Zucchini and other summer squash varieties contain vitamins A and C.  They also contain potassium and calcium.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. comments that the flavor of zucchini is best when it is less than six inches long.  Zucchinis can grow as large as baseball bats but have little flavor when they reach this size.

Colds and the Flu

The Flu Can Make You Feel Miserable

Before you know it, it we’ll be entering the cold and flu season once again.  With that in mind, Bryan Bajakian, D.C., a Chiropractor based out of Northern New Jersey, wants to impart some basic information regarding this topic, so as to help you remain healthy despite how many others around you may unfortunately become sick.

One thing that Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has always stressed to his patients is that Chiropractic is not a cure for the common cold, however many people who undergo Chiropractic care report a general improvement in health, fewer and/or less severe colds, and an overall better feeling of well being.

The Common Cold
Acute Coryza 45, or the common cold, is attributed to a virus that affects the nose, throat, larynx, and sinuses. Symptoms of the common cold are stuffy nose, watery eyes, runny nose, stuffed sinuses, and congestion.  The absence of high fever is the differentiating factor from other viruses and bacterial infections.

Anatomy of a Sneeze

What Causes the Common Cold?
To contract the common cold, or incubate and grow germs, Bryan Bajakian says you must first be susceptible to them. Studies show that the common cold is infrequently passed from person to person unless the uninfected person is fertile ground for the passing and growth of the germs.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has frequently asked this specific question to his patients, “If someone sneezes in a room of 20 people, why is it that only a few people actually contract the cold?”

Vertebral Subluxation

Vertebral Subluxations
Misaligned vertebrae that interfere with the nervous system and cause nerve stress are called Vertebral Subluxations.  This interference interrupts the information and energy flow to the various parts of the body and lowers our natural resistance to sickness and disease. Bryan Bajakian, D.C., is trained to locate and correct Vertebral Subluxation through examination and the correct the problem through spinal adjustments. The adjustments relieve the nerve stress and assist in restoration of body function.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C., has always advised his patients and the public at large, that proper functioning of the nervous system through chiropractic treatment is one of the best defenses against the common cold.

The Medical Approach
Medicine offers absoultely no cure for the common cold. Bryan Bajakian, D.C. found studies that assessed how medical doctors handled patients who entered thier offices for conditions that were obviously the common cold and/or the flu.  78% of all medical doctors interviewed would prescribe antibiotics for the conditon, knowing that such a prescription would be in vain.  The reason for prescribing was because “the patients wanted something to take for their condition”.

Bryan Bajakian, D.C., has always advised his patients that taking antibiotics for the common cold is a useless endeavor as colds are associated with viruses, and are thereby untreatable with antibiotics. Other over the counter antihistamines, decongestants, vitamins and bioflavinoids are just as ineffective, as they are a high profit for the manufacturer with minimal relief from the cold.

The Chiropractic Approach
Chiropractic is not a treatment for the common cold, however it does assist in raising resistance against the common cold. Spinal nerve stresses damage the nervous system and can lead to disease of all kinds. Bryan Bajakian, D.C. would locate and free the body from spinal nerve stress. Studies have shown that there is a relationship between a healthy nervous system and a healthy body.

Health comes from within and Bryan Bajakian, D.C. encourages you to strengthen your immune system naturally, and enjoy a live emphasizing Wellness,  through Chiropractic Spinal Adjustments!

Boost Your Immune Function By 400%!!

What’s In A Sneeze?

A question that Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has asked for over two decades is; “Have you ever wondered why there could be dozens of people in a room and when one person sneezes, only a certain group of those people will become sick?”  The answer:  only those with lowered resistance will catch the colds…

Bryan Bajakian, D.C., has maintained a successful Chiropractic practice in Northern N.J. for over 25 years until his retirement in 2008.  During that time frame, he’s not only noticed an improved pattern of health in his patients, but also has documented exactly how patients under regular Chiropractic care become sick with a much less  degree of frequency, than their non-Chiropractic peers.

People who have treated in the office of  Bryan Bajakian, D.C., have noticed not just their own health, but those of their spouses, parents, and children, dramatically improve while under regular care, many times prompting them to ask  Bryan Bajakian, D.C., as to how this could be.

Your Nervous System Controls Your Entire Body

It was as if a light was being turned on each time that  Bryan Bajakian, D.C., would explain to them that every cell, muscle, organ, and function within the human body is controlled by nerve supply, information that is created within the brain.  This innate intelligence flows down the spinal cord and along spinal nerves to essentially every cell within the body.

Bryan Bajakian, D.C. would ask his patients, does it make sense that if that God given intelligence within our brains, cannot reach every part of the body that requires it to function properly, then maybe Mal-Function would result?

Not Feeling Your Best???

Mal-Function within the human body could be viewed as lowered immunity, decreased energy levels, degenerative conditions, and overall poor health.

Every patient of Bryan Bajakian, D.C. was given extensive documentation as to the many benefits of regular Chiropractic care.  This documentation was in the form of third party validation of Chiropractic treatment.

New York University

One such study was a medical study that Bryan Bajakian, D.C. came across involved Dr. Ronald Pero, Ph.D, Chief of Cancer Prevention Research at New York’s Preventative Medicine Institute and professor of medicine at New York University.

Dr. Pero measured the immune systems of people under Chiropractic care as compared to those in the general population and those with Cancer and other serious Immune diseases.

What Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has pointed out to those he’s shared this information with is that the study revealed the initial 3-year study of patients who had been under Chiropractic care revealed a 200% greater immune function than those not under care and a 400% improvement in immune function than those with Cancer and other serious immune diseases.

Another impressive study that Bryan Bajakian, D.C. came across involved researchers at the Life Chiropractic University who took a group of HIV Positive patients and adjusted them (treated them Chiropractically) over a 6-month period.  Measurements in blood chemistries were taken at the patients’ independent medical centers, where they were under medical supervision for the condition.

What Bryan Bajakian, D.C.  found interesting was that researchers noted the “patients that were adjusted had an increase of forty eight (48%) in the CD4 cells (an important Immune system component).”

The control group did not demonstrate this dramatic increase in immune function, but actually  experienced a 7.96% decrease in CD4 cell counts over the same period.

The Innate Intelligence Within Your Brain

Bryan Bajakian, D.C. asks you to consider this; if the nerves that carry the life giving energy and information that is created within the brain, and which control the optimum function of the organs and tissues that maintain your immune strength are NOT supplying the nerve flow that is required for proper function, HOW CAN YOU EXPECT TO REMAIN HEALTHY??

Chiropractic Spinal Adjustments free your nervous system of life robbing interference due to Subluxations (vertebra that are out of place and pressing on the delicate spinal nerves) and thereby interferring with the nerves’ ability to function properly.

Experience Your Optimal Health Potential

Bryan Bajakian, D.C., recommends that you experience your Optimal Health Potential by ensuring a healthy and properly functioning nervous system through REGULAR Chiropractic check-ups!

Just A Headache??

Headaches ARE Dangerous

Whenever this subject has ever come up, Bryan Bajakian, D.C., a Chiropractor based out of Northern New Jersey, has always been amazed at how people have accepted this potentially dangerous condition in their bodies…or how they justify why they have them.

Pain in your Brain

The physical aspect of a headache is something impressive.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has always commented, IF you really look at it as what it truly is-it’s pain in your brain. With over 50 million people in the United States suffering from Headaches, it has become one of the most common and most disturbing health conditions.

Stress induced headache

When Bryan Bajakian, D.C., would ask how often a person is suffering from their headaches, he would hear numbers that range from daily, to several times a week, to once a month. Although the numbers vary, the person usually does have disclaimers such as; “it’s only when I’ve had a bad day”, “not too bad, just usually when I have to study too much for class”, “when the kids are home”, and just way too many other “justifications” for a condition that literally should NEVER occur.

Think about it says Bryan Bajakian, D.C., if you were getting pains in your chest once a month, or whenever you were under stress, would you go to a doctor and get checked out? Would you have this monthly chest pain assessed, never mind if it was happening a few times a week…or even daily-or would you just say-”it’s from stress, I’ll just take something to mask the pain”?

Nerve & blood flow disturbances cause headaches

Headaches come from one cause in 9 out of 10 cases, tense paraspinal muscles surrounding the neck cites Bryan Bajakian, D.C.. The increased tension in the neck muscles irritates the spinal nerves in the upper cervical spine (also known as Tension Headaches).

One of Bryan Bajakian, D.C.’s favorite sources is the New England Journal of Medicine, which stated that 97% of all headaches come from the neck.

Bryan Bajakian, D.C., also points out that in your neck, the vertebral arteries pass through the vertebra on their way up to the brain. Misalignments in the neck can impair the blood supply to the brain, further contributing to the headaches.

The Blood Flow to the Brain

This is why Bryan Bajakian, D.C. has always recommended correcting the spinal misalignments through Chiropractic adjustments, so the headaches can be safely and effectively eliminated.

Safe & Effective Chiropractic Adjustments

For those of you who have been to Bryan Bajakian, D.C., or perhaps a Chiropractor of your own, with the complaint of a headache, you know just how powerful an adjustment is and what an impact it can make on the headache-all without the use of potentially dangerous drugs.

Aspirin thins the blood

As safe as Aspirin is thought to be, it works by thinning the blood, which is why it is so often prescribed to people with heart conditions.  Bryan Bajakian, D.C., points out that the exact same study which showed that the Aspirin thinnned blood reduced heart attack risk by 32% also increased the patient’s chances of having a stroke by 84% due to the bleeding within the brain from the excessively thinned blood.

Each time you take one Aspirin you bleed internally within your intestines 1 tablespoon of blood, which is eliminated in your feces.  Bryan Bajakian D.C. just wants to point out the many risks that are associated with taking drugs, even ones thought to be as safe as Aspirin.

Although retired, Bryan Bajakian, D.C., maintains his vast educational web site with the intention of supplying the public with important information that they need to use in making their health care choices.  For further information on this topic and many others please go to www.chiropractic4all.com.

Why Try Chiropractic: by Bryan Bajakian, D.C.

Why Chiropractic Care?
Presented By Bryan K. Bajakian, D.C.

Why Try Chiropractic?
From the time of your initial conception, an innate intelligence controls & coordinates the development of your rapidly growing body…

A German study documented that 80% of ALL people being born acquire mis-alignments of the vertebra in their neck (Subluxations) from the birthing process and from how they were carried in their mother’s womb.

So only 20% of ALL people born start out with healthy spines…

During the first year of life…50% of ALL children fall from the height of a changing table or high chair. This reduces the 20% of “healthy” people down further…

O.S.H.A. (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) has estimated that by the time a child reaches the age of 7 they have been involved in over 2,500 traumas….

This reduces the number of children with healthy spines down even further…

As we become young adults, we spend many thousands of hours sitting in poor chairs, further compromising the integrity of the spines of our now young adults. Reducing that percentage even more.

Why Try Chiropractic?
As young adults, new drivers unfortunately have accidents, further weakening their spines, and further decreasing the number of healthy people…

As we settle into our careers and professions, we become less and less physically active, and more physically/emotionally stressed out.

Pain does NOT have to be present when you have a Subluxation present.

At each level that there is nerve pressure, there is ALWAYS dysfunction of the organs and tissues supplied by those nerves.

If left uncorrected, the mechanical weaknesses of your spine will result in premature wearing out of the joints. This is permanent and results in pain and loss of function for the rest of your life.

The Chiropractic approach is to locate each level of your spine that demonstrates Subluxations, educate you as to how those problems occurred, and how it’s affecting your body…

Chiropractic spinal adjustments are safe, natural, and painless. Each time you are “adjusted”, the pressure on your spinal nerves is removed and your body functions at a much higher level.

Chiropractic adjustments are not only so safe that they can be performed on infants and children…

There’s a saying in Chiropractic…”So bent the twig…grows the tree”.
